So its 5:22 p.m. in Aviano,Italy and I’m sipping an early evening glass of wine. It couldn’t be more picturesque and relaxing.
We arrived yesterday morning after a 20 hour travel commute. It’s already well worth the distance and it’s only been one full day. I can’t wait to see what the next two weeks have waiting for me.
I haven’t been to Europe in over 12 years and when I heard the news a year ago that my brother and his wife would be moving here, I knew a trip would be in the near future. And here I am.
The plane ride could have been better. 12 total hours in the air only had four hours of sleep in store for me, but how can I complain with the destination in such a beautiful place.
Aviano is our resting point. An Italian military base city. My brother and his wife live in a house just a few miles from base, facing the mountains. I couldn’t imagine being them and waking up every morning to the view, realizing it is home. I mean seriously, how fortunate are they?
Today was the first full day here and I took it easy with my family. However, there is much more in store in the next two days to come.
I’m going to Munich Germany for the last weekend of Oktoberfest… We hop on a bus at 2:00 a.m. tomorrow morning for a seven hour drive to Munich. I never thought I’d be at the actual Oktoberfest. The closest I’ve gotten was just a few weeks ago when a Samuel Adams marketing employee came to my place of work for some PR fun for our guests. Now that seems like a joke that this is becoming real. I’m excited to see how tomorrow pans out. Maybe I’ll even to rent an outfit to wear so I can fit in with the rest of the crowd. It’s all about fun after all, isn’t it?
Sunday I’m off to Milan. My father and brother are going to a
soccer game in the city, so my aunt and are are going to spend the day touring and of course taking pictures of all that we see. I can’t wait.
I’m so fortunate to have a chance to travel this way. It’s all a bit surreal. Yes, there are many people who travel, but not all have the opportunity. I’m glad I get to share it with people I love.
I’ll be sure to update with pictures of the weekend when I get a chance.
